Peter V. Brett, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Demon Cycle, begins a brand new epic fantasy adventure set in his beloved world, following a new generation of heroes.

Fifteen years have passed since the demons were destroyed. Heroes have become legend, and those that remain live in their shadows.

Olive, Princess of Hollow, has her entire life planned out—a steady march toward succession. But the more her mother writes the script, the more Olive rails against playing the parts she is assigned.

Darin is the son of the man people say saved the world. Everyone expects greatness from Darin, but the only thing he’s ever been great at is hiding.

But now it’s time to fight the darkness.

When Olive and Darin step across the wards one night, they learn that the demons are not all gone, and those that remain hunger for revenge.

Are Darin and Olive ready to be heroes?

‘Epic in scale and emotionally intimate, it delivers immaculate world-building, complex politics – both sexual and social, and propulsive, edge-of-the-seat plotting. Settle down for a feast of turns, twists, [and] magic’

DAILY MAIL

‘Peter Brett takes the reader with him and his characters on an electric and unrelenting charge through the demon-haunted depths of the Warded universe, full of love and death’

Naomi Novik, Sunday Times bestselling author of UPROOTED

‘An intricately crafted tale of intrigue and courage where one’s station and lineage determines everything, good and bad. An exciting read. Peter Brett has outdone himself with this first book in a new series.’

#1 New York Times bestselling author Terry Brooks

‘The Desert Prince is a class act. Wonderful storytelling, flawed and believable characters and a ratcheting of tension that has you reading well into the dark hours. This is a must read’

John Gwynne, author of Malice

‘The Desert Prince is a deeply intimate, yet epic adventure. Heart-wrenching, smart, and modern, this book kept me wide-eyed and wide awake for many-a-nights as I struggled step-for-step alongside Olive and Darin from the green lands to the desert pits to the darkest recesses of the demon minds. The Desert Prince has set a new standard for fantasy.’

Wesley Chu, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the War Arts Saga

‘THE DESERT PRINCE is the work of a master at the top of his game. The new cast of would-be heroes instantly draw you into a world full of old dangers as Brett cranks up the tension to unbearable levels. If you’re going to read this book, cancel all your plans because there’s no way you’ll be able to put it down once you start. This is the best Peter V Brett book so far.’

Following on from the main story was great and expanding the character base etc.
The change in accents of main characters, in particular Darren was very jarring though.
Other wise great addition to the series.

Great story, shame about the narration

This first person dialogue was great. The characters had a depth I could relate too. From start to finish I couldn't stop listening.

Great carry on story

So first off I am around 5 hours into this book and about to put it down so this is based off what I have listened to. the issue I have could be having just got though 100+ hours of the 5 original demon cycle books (fantastic cannot fault) but it’s glaring to the point I don’t actually want to go on with it right now.
I respect the narrators and I am sure they are very good at what they do. BUT we have 5 audio books of characters sounding a certain way, pronouncing things and being portrayed though their language and intonation that listeners of the series know what feels right. And this just isn’t it. Between the mispronounced words that’s sounding has been established. To completely changing characters/regions accents… it’s just so jarring to me I cannot go on. it screams they made no effort to listen to the originals to get a feel for pronouncation or how the characters talk…. I do not recognise characters that I have spent so much time with sadly.
Despite understanding you might (for some reason) think it’s right to make changes due to the perspective/character shifts…. But in this scenario I am truly baffled as to why you would 1.change from such a fantastic original narrator in the first place when he was perfect and 2. Accept these two narrators portrayals of these characters! Since when did the folk of tibets brook sound like a poor hillbilly impersonation?

I may give it another go down the line as I love the world the author has built. But this has left me very disappointed.

An incredible world sadly lost by narration.

Absolutely fantastic, but if you haven't: go read the demon cycle first, starting with The Painted Man.

performance uses somewhat different accents than the first series, but once I got used to that I appreciated the skill and effort that had gone into it.

great work Peter V. Brett, and to all involved!

absolutely fantastic

Everyone else has already summed my feelings up on the voice actors. I just don't understand it at all. I assume the agent/publisher thought they'd break into the American market?

Why? Why would you use American voice actors?
