Bill Masen wakes in his hospital bed, eyes bandaged. Something is wrong: it’s unusually quiet and no one has come to his room. When he removes his bandages he finds a world that has changed utterly. Most of the population are completely blind – only those who didn’t watch the night sky can still see. And, as law and order break down, a new menace appears – Triffids, walking carnivorous plants that can kill a human with their lethal sting. For Bill and the other survivors, it’s now a battle to stay alive. Gary Watson stars as Bill, with Barbara Shelley as Josella in these six stirring episodes. Also amongst the cast are Peter Sallis, Marjorie Westbury and some names familiar to Doctor Who aficionados: Peter Pratt, Christopher Bidmead and David Brierley. First published in 1951, John Wyndham’s novel became his best-known work and a classic of 20th Century fiction.©2006 BBC Audiobooks Ltd; (P)2006 BBC Audiobooks Ltd Drama & Plays European Kurgu Science Fiction World Literature

Excellent! True to the book. Bit dated , probably why the diction was so clear!! Enjoyable to be able to listen to it.

Very good

Very decent audio story. A superb take on the novel, found it even more enjoyable and engaging than the movies I have seen.

Well performed, well produced. Every bit as good as the War of the Worlds radio show from same era.

Would recommend indeed.

Not Bad At All

A fantastic performance of an apocalyptic tale, wherein ladies swoon, children coo, and men teach.

A Classic, Very Much of its Time

I felt this version was very light on detail with little depth in relation to the story.

the performances were good but clearly made for a previous era

dated version

This is an old BBC audio (full cast) dramatization set I would guess in the 1960s. Whilst the story is somewhat abridged ii is well acted and engaging. Good value for the money and has infinite replayability.

It's not the end
