A young woman is assaulted and left for dead while walking the Yorkshire moors.
A local man is found murdered on the edge of a landfill site.

But what do these seemingly unconnected crimes have in common?

Forensic profiler Jo McCready is brought in by DCI Callum Ferguson to find out. Were the victims led to their deaths by the mysterious lights flickering above the bogs?

But Jo has a secret. Local gangster and prison inmate, Chris McGarry, knows the dead man and wants revenge. He also has leverage on Jo, and as the investigation intensifies, he presses her to pass on police information.

Jo must tread carefully. Will she follow the light - or step into the dark . . . Amateur Sleuths Crime Thrillers Mystery Police Procedurals Private Investigators Thriller & Suspense Women Sleuths

I was a little unsure whether to listen to this after listening to her previous book, The Invisible Dead, which I didn't enjoy as much. However, this has such an intriguing and compulsive storyline I was drawn in quite quickly. The characters are developing so well you can imagine what they look like and how they behave. Claire Corbett is one of my favourite narrators. She defines the people with different voices and accents. I'm so glad she narrated this series as Lesley McEvoy's depth of knowledge and storytelling needs and deserves this expert level of narrative. Will be waiting for the next in the series!!

Narrated so well you can lose yourself in the story!

.A most satisfying read, Jo our protagonist races though a current and cold case. All this whilst under threat from a crime lord and the vagaries of the Pennines winter weather. Jo's best outing yet! My regret is being able to read them in such a small fraction of the time that Lesley McEvoy takes to write them.

Jo intelligently seals the case .
