"A quest to create a magical book is at the centre of this thought-provoking fantasy novel . . . Wonderfully bibliophilic"
"Fascinating characters, a dramatic denouement, and an intriguing books-and-libraries subtext contribute to the success of this second book of the Worldquake series. A rich, original, and imaginative sequel for fantasy fans"
"PRAISE FOR THE WORLDQUAKE SEQUENCE: The most exciting debut in children's fiction since HARRY POTTER" (JOANNE HARRIS)
"This tale of magical education is a cracker . . . has its own distinctive style"
"Otherworldly . . . 'Getting lost in a book' takes on new meaning"
"Will whisk you off on a spectacular adventure"
"An entrancing novel that stands on its prose . . . set in a dystopian future after a massive quake has annihilated modern technology . . . She is far too inventive a writer ever to let us feel we've been here before"
"Superb fantasy *****"
"In this children's debut from adult fantasy writer Thomas, a young girl inherits a magical library and discovers you can – quite literally – become lost in a book . . . The first book in the Worldquake Sequence augurs well for what is to follow"
"Lively, inventive, phrase-making fantasy . . . revels in evocative spells, names and descriptions of quaint shops, fabulous food and delicious interiors . . . has something of J.K. Rowling's capacity to delight"

I’m a big fan of Scarlet Thomas’ work and saw these children ‘s books as an opportunity to get some more. The second book in the series is not quite up to the first. I found this a bit muddled in parts and quite a confusing list of characters. But still very enjoyable- and picking up on her usual themes of time, reality and magic in the everyday. Competently read but I was sure about the voice representation given the age and gender of the main character. But still I give it four out if five because it’s Scarlet!

The whole family has enjoyed listening to this more than once. It is the sequel to Dragon 's Green, which tells the story of Effie Truelove who discovers her magical powers and a way into another world through her grandfather 's library. its a shame part 3 is not available on Audible, but we have the book.

brilliant magical tale

A fabulous follow up to Dragon's Green. The world-building is excellent, the characters have enough depth to be enjoyable. RA's performance is, of course, stunning. I just wish there were another to follow!

A dazzling sequel to Dragon’s Green. Scarlett Thomas excels at writing rich, layered novels, and this one is a cornucopia of pleasures for children and adults at the same time. Roger Allam is a sensitive and appreciative reader. Fabulous all round.
