In this powerful Tudor short story, Sunday Times bestselling novelist Alison Weir reimagines the life of the secret love child of Cardinal Wolsey.

Few can claim to be a cardinal's daughter, but I can . . .

Dorothy Clausey grows up in the splendid shadow of Worcester Cathedral, raised by loving parents she believes to be her own. But soon after her eighteenth birthday, Dorothy learns the shocking truth. She is the secret daughter of the great Cardinal Wolsey - King Henry's chief minister and the most powerful subject in the realm.

When rumours swirl that the King will move against Wolsey for treason, Dorothy finds herself in a dangerous position. Heartbroken, she agrees to enter a convent for her own protection.

At Shaftesbury Abbey, Dorothy is torn between her new vocation and the unexpected desires stirring within her. But when the King begins dissolving monasteries, and the young novice nuns are given the choice to stay or leave, Dorothy must decide her true path . . .

A very insightful and powerful story of what might have happened to Dorothea Clancey, daughter of Cardinal Wolsey. We hear the difficulties that Dorothea might have experienced in entering life into a convent, and finding out who her true father was. It's very sad that as we know neither Thomas Wolsey or Joan Larke ever saw their daughter again after she was born, it must have been truly heartbreaking for them to have given up their beloved daughter. We learn of Henry VIII dissolving the monasteries and the Abbey where Dorothea lived, to raise money and take lands for the Crown after separating from Rome. Part of this story is fictional, but a very good short story by Alison Weir, and I loved the voice of Beth Eyre narrating too. An excellent novel to listen to after listening to The Cardinal. 🕯🤍 📚

The Ither Side

I liked the fact that the story is based on historical happenings and the nuns' futures after the Abbey is taken over and destroyed is described.

A story based on reality

Basically a short story! My own fault, should have looked at duration before I wasted a credit on it!

Not really a book!
