WINNER OF THE 2014 CILIP CARNEGIE MEDAL.

I can't believe I fell for it.
It was still dark when I woke up this morning.
As soon as my eyes opened I knew where I was.

A low-ceilinged rectangular building made entirely of whitewashed concrete.
There are six little rooms along the main corridor.

There are no windows. No doors. The lift is the only way in or out.
What's he going to do to me?
What am I going to do?

If I'm right, the lift will come down in five minutes.
It did. Only this time it wasn't empty . . .

Eleştirmen yorumları

A compulsive, atmospheric mystery
A masterly writer
Hugely readable . . . confoundedly gripping
[Kevin Brooks'] pacey plots . . . have made him a cult among teens. This, though, is the big one. It should be read by everyone. (Amanda Craig)

Good premise and competent writing, but oh the ending… I feel like I wasted several hours of my life.

Terrible ending!

Had high hopes after a booktok creator recommended it in a video. The story is both well narrated and engaging. However, I personally was becoming disillusioned with it towards the end. I'm still not entirely sure what the message or take away from this story is supposed to be.

Ummm.

What a fantastic audiobook! Really felt like I was part of this story, it blew me away. The narrator is amazing and does such a good job at capturing the book. I don't want to give too much away to anyone who hasn't listened yet, but parts of the book lost me a little and Im left a bit frustrated, but I've just finished and I've got goosebumps!

I've got chills - absolutely breathtaking!
