IF YOU DON'T KNOW SIMON SCARROW, YOU DON'T KNOW ROME!

THE BLOOD CROWS is the unputdownable twelfth novel in Simon Scarrow's bestselling Eagles of the Empire series. A must read for fans of Bernard Cornwell. Praise for Simon Scarrow's gripping novels: 'Ferocious and compelling' Daily Express

Britannia, AD 51. For nearly a decade, the Roman Empire has fought to assert its hold over Britannia. But relentless opposition from native tribes led by the fanatical King Caratacus threatens to destroy everything.

Prefect Cato and Centurion Macro are dispatched from Rome to aid the campaign. Placed in command of an outpost in the remote western mountains, they face a challenge even more deadly than the unremitting attacks of barbarian forces. For they must wrench control of the fort from Centurion Quertus, a man who wages a savage personal war and inspires a loyalty in his men above their bond with Rome.

With dangerous enemies on both sides, Cato and Macro face the fight of their lives to bring peace to the most perilous frontier in Europe.

Gripping... ferocious and compelling, it is a story of blood, romance and sacrifice
A new book in Simon Scarrow's series about the Roman army is always a joy
A satisfyingly bloodthirsty, bawdy romp...perfect for Bernard Cornwell addicts who will relish its historical detail and fast-paced action. Storming stuff
Scarrow's [novels] rank with the best
[Simon Scarrow] blends together historical facts and characters to create a book that simply cannot be put down... Highly recommended

There are clever storyline for both the romantic and British armies in this book. Also a good level of humour.

Action packed throughout

If you could sum up The Blood Crows in three words, what would they be?

Marching, mud and madness

Which character – as performed by Jonathan Keeble – was your favourite?

Not one but two - the friends and our heroes, Cato and Macro. I had read all of the earlier books in Simon Scarrow's marvellous Eagles series and was concerned that Jonathan Keeble's interpretation of them would fall contrary to my mental pictures. Instead, his reading enhanced my appreciation of Scarrow's characters and perfectly fitted, with vocal change of pace, the speed of the narrative. Superb.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and I did.

Any additional comments?

The two friends, Cato and Macro, back in the army in Britannia and hoping to live the simple life, facing only Rome's enemies and unchallenged by political conspiracy. Fortunately for us, not a chance.A good book in a brilliant series.

This series just goes from strength to strength. A series of adventures without ever being rushed or cramped. Cato's promotion is believable but held in check by his relationship with Macro. Must get the next installment

Usual level of plot twists and superb narration. At points had me horrified by what was happening. Can’t wait for the next book!!

Another solid book

As always, Simon Scarrow's books have a depth to them. This one is no exception. The period was cruel, full of intrigue and deception, and then there were the men who had honour and integrity. There is always a lot to learn of the human condition, as appropriate now as it was then. Simon Scarrow's books never fail to satisfy. Please keep writing!
