The long awaited Jo Nesbo thriller, from the opening lines it picks you up and carries you through a steady paced, good old fashioned story, you press play and move along with Harry Hole on his "working visit" to Australia.

This is a true thriller with all the right ingredients that added together produce a tale that you have waited a long time for. Plug in your headphones or play it through the car stereo and be taken to the streets of Sydney meeting new friends whilst escorting Harry on his first adventure, I thoroughly enjoyed this graphic tale and never once moaned about the time I spent in the car. Listening to Sean Barrett describe Harry Holes relationship with an indigenous Australian (a wonderful character) in Sydney. Deep joy and I cannot wait to rejoin Harry.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The main character would have been sacked from any police force so I didn`t really understand why he was the protagonist. The story and the storytelling were excellent, but the main character was such a loser I lost interest.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Give the `hero` some redeeming qualities!

What about Sean Barrett’s performance did you like?

Couldn`t fault it. Excellent.

Was The Bat worth the listening time?

No... as soon as I found out whodunnit I gratefully stopped.

I've read a couple of Jo Nesbo's books and enjoyed them so it was a delight to have this, his first book, read to me.
His usual variation of pace and delightful blend of humour and darkness made this a great listen. Now I'm looking forward to hearing his second book.

A real twister in places, dies lose a little direction about 3/4 way in with flash backs, but still a great listen and excellent narration.

Sean's superb performance leads you easily through the different characters. This is my first Nesbo and I loved it from start to finish. Not easy to turn off. I felt there was plenty of grip and darkness - I could have slapped Harry at times, but then, I'm just getting to know him.
