She doesn’t know I’m there, watching her in the mirror. She slides her hand under her blouse. And then I see something impossible. She isn’t pregnant....

She bursts into my life like a storm, and nothing is the same again. She seems so perfect, with her lilting laugh and her beautiful face. One by one, I watch as my friends fall under her spell.

Only I seem to suspect something. Only I see that her smiles don’t reach her cold, furious eyes. And when I’m accused of things I didn’t do, when my home is vandalized, I know she’s behind it. But she only lets her mask slip when no one is looking, so if I say anything, I’ll look crazy.

So when the baby shower comes around, I’m there, sitting on a velvet sofa in a posh hotel room, surrounded by balloons. We share gifts, we pour small glasses of champagne, and she beams, her bump just visible under her bright red shirt.

But that afternoon, I finally learn the unbelievable truth.

There is no baby....

A stunningly twisty story of toxic female friendships, guilt, and lies from S.E. Lynes, author of the number one best seller The Housewarming. If you like Lisa Jewell, Gillian Flynn, and Paula Hawkins, you’ll be glued to The Baby Shower.

Was an OK listen, but the typical storyline when the good person knows something about someone and tries to tell everyone but no one believes them, and they end up being the villan, until it comes to light that the villan is the person the good one was warning everyone about

Very much enjoyed this thriller. The accents were fantastic and the characters brilliantly portrayed. Worth listening to.

I knew what the outcome was going to be about 30 mins into this book, although it was a good listen

Beautifully told and immediately engaging. Unfortunately very relatable for anyone who's witnessed the power play dynamics of friend groups. This is that - with added 'whoaaa, I can't look'

Gripping page turner, great characters and plot twists with wicked / humorous dialogue

I really enjoyed this book , and was hoping Jane would stand up for herself and verbally throw abuse at Lexi. But it would be game over then. What annoyed me was the nasty spiteful games that were played out , and it kept me listening , shocked at the bitchiness. . Sadly though, it was a bit too dramatic towards the end , like a TV soap ..... ?? It got into the realms of fantasy, as Captain Mannering would say. Narrator was excellent though, and book well worth a listen.

Started so well.
