Retired US detective Emil Janowitz has lied to his wife for more than forty years. Losing his entire family as an inmate of Auschwitz Concentration Camp he found it easier than facing the demons buried deep inside.

A letter from an unknown Aleksy Markowski sends him off on a journey, to hunt down and denounce vicious Kapos who were supposedly gassed in the last days before liberation. The truth, they fled justice and still live and flourish and must be brought to justice. Emil’s journey triggers memories he's long locked away and his journey opens him up to a life he'd put in the past. Life is a journey, history should not be forgotten, the evil still exists.

History should never be forgotten about whilst the evil still exists.

Absolutely loved this book. I usually have 2-3 audiobooks on the go, but had to pause the other 2 as I just wanted to go back to this one and find out what’s happening next. It’s the story of a young man and his ordeal surviving the Holocaust. Be warned this book has references to the horrors of ‘the Final solution’. It’s a heart wrenching story, very well written and highly recommended.

Interesting story about a survivor from the Auschwitz’s death camp, tracing the camps Kapos who terrorized the inmates. Story is fiction but you wished it was true life. Story’s like this need to be told so the world does not forget.

Compulsive listening but hard subject

An amazing story, so well narrated. The tale of one man's journey through hatred, pain, death and retribution. A life once lived had to be lived again before justice could be served. Good characterisations.

A sometimes heartbreaking journey
