From the first listen, it felt like someone finally put words to things I’ve struggled to explain for years. The way sensory overload and social exhaustion were described made me feel seen instead of misunderstood. I appreciated how the guidance didn’t push masking or “powering through,” but focused on honoring real needs. The executive functioning tips felt realistic, not overwhelming or unrealistic for everyday life. What stayed with me most was the steady reminder that authenticity isn’t something to fix—it’s something to protect. I found myself pausing often, not because it was heavy, but because it landed gently. It felt less like advice and more like having a calm, understanding companion alongside me.

I picked this up to better understand an adult family member on the spectrum, and it gave me clarity I didn’t have before. The explanations of sensory overload, anxiety, and executive-function challenges helped me see everyday situations with our loved one very differently. It's important for us that this book emphasizes autonomy and dignity. It’s practical and helping us communicate more thoughtfully and supportively.

I found this book to be quite informative as an adult with autism. I was able to reduce the tension caused by sensory overload in public settings because to it. The author seemed to get all I was going through. Additionally, they had various coping mechanisms and remedies. Using the ideas in this book, my social anxiety has decreased. Although it's not a magic bullet, the various coping mechanisms taught are really beneficial. Thank you

Enjoyable!
