Unto the Tenth Generation....

Must we atone for our ancestors’ sins?

Conrad’s 11x great grandfather has been haunting his house since 1622, keeping a secret and biding his time. A secret that spells trouble for the world of magick.

The King’s Watch want to Summon him. The keepers of the secret don’t want that to happen.
They unleash a fire Mage to stop the summoning and don’t care who dies on the way.
And when Spectre Thomas finally makes an appearance, he passes the guilt of old sins on to Conrad’s shoulders. Wild, dark magick is on the loose, and Conrad has to carry the burden of tracking it down.

With death and destruction on all sides, his problems have multiplied. Tenfold.

I'm enjoying this series as much as The Rivers of London series. Lots of fun and twists and turns in the plots. This one took us underground where we meet yet another dwarf and more gnomes as well as a dark unicorn. The world is fantastically created and I love the way Conrad describes it with his constant little asides. As for the previous other books in the series it ends with a wild ride and Conrad having to use not just his ability to fight but his wits and wiles. I'm addicted. And the narrator Ciaran Saward gets better and better with each book. He has quite a cast of characters to play, including many women and manages to make each distinctive, believable and totally in character. He's fast becoming one of my fave narrators along with Kobna Holbrook-Smith and Adjoa Andoh.

Absolute fun

Everything about this series of books is fantastic - I’m halfway through this one and dreading finishing book 5, unless Audible can pull off a miracle (perhaps needing a touch of magic) and get Eight Kings out in the next few days. The plotting is great, love the characters and Ciaran Saward’s narration is out of the top drawer. It’s particularly refreshing that Mark Hayden trusts his audience to keep up with the plot and avoids the unnecessary exposition and recap that plagues some otherwise excellent examples of the genre.

Keep Ciaran hard at work!
