Power has a price. Terry Fairway is about to learn how steep.

The vampires that once haunted Wichita are gone, reduced to ash. But Terry’s real war is only beginning. Topeka is burning, caught in the ruthless crossfire of S-ranked tyrants locked in a game of conquest. While the city suffers, the supers wage war.

Terry and his team are the only ones willing to stand against them—outsiders facing down monsters who’ve ruled unchallenged for decades. If they want a chance to save Topeka, Terry needs to grow stronger. Fast. His search for power leads him to Terraform's Market and the reclusive space-master Marlon, who holds the key to abilities Terry has only dreamed of.

But power attracts attention. From the Council of Kansas City who hunt him at every turn. From his grandfather who watches from his throne. And from the east comes Qui Shen, the Incinerator himself—an S-ranked nightmare who has his own designs on the Market and the secrets hidden within.

Terry wanted power to protect the innocent. Now he must decide how much of himself he's willing to sacrifice to keep it.

Because in a world of superpowered tyrants, the line between hero and villain blurs with every ounce of power gained.

From a strong start with the first book - this builds on the plot well and sets the scene for things to come - really enjoyed it

Great serries

Murder my family fogiven, try to murder me forgiven, try to murder my friends forgiven, honestly everything gets forgiven and its infuriating. So the story itself is fine but the way the author writes characters really bothers me. For one thing they are extremely whiney, for another they can't seem to commit to any emotion other than forgiveness. And what makes it even worse is the fact that it happens instantly, one moment a character hates someone for truly good reasons then the next they are forgiven without any reason for doing so or any attempt on either side to rectify whatever had caused the original problem. I just can't get past it since it happens so often and for almost all of the characters, it's almost as if every character has the same personality when it comes to confronting someone who has angered them.

All the mc does is forgive everything

I really want to like this, i was drawn by the VAs who did my favourite book.

I cannot find myself liking it, the pacing is all over the place in a bad way, so we just jump into a time skip from book 1?

I dont know what they actually do, feed witchita not feeding anything now? Because i just came from the last book where the whole goal was essentially pointless.

I have no idea because the book is bloated with pointless convoluted descriptions but no actual details of what happens in the fight, whole paragraphs on how hot fire is and how fast they are moving? uneccessary.

As much as i love the VA's they they can't save this, in fact the constant depressed tone works against their talents.

Decent premise, mediocre execution
