No discussion of great modern authors is complete without mention of Cormac McCarthy, whose rare and blazing talent makes his every work a true literary event. A grand addition to the American literary canon, Suttree introduces readers to Cornelius Suttree, a man who abandons his affluent family to live among a dissolute array of vagabonds along the Tennessee river.©1979 Cormac McCarthy (P)2012 Recorded Books Genre Fiction Kurgu Literary Fiction Duygusal olarak çekici Klasikler

Eleştirmen yorumları

“ Suttree contains a humor that is Faulknerian … and a freakish imaginative flair reminiscent of Flannery O’Connor.” ( Times Literary Supplement, London)

Magnificent in scope and execution. Terrible tales from a lost delta woven with a cloth no daintier than blunt survival and alcoholism. Delirium has never trembled so accurately or beautifully.

A masterpiece.

I loved The Road, Blood Meridian, Child of God etc. but struggled slightly with the beginning of Suttree, It wasn’t what I expected but I’m so glad I stuck with it. An epic in every sense of the word and, despite an almost complete lack of traditional story, bizarrely gripping. Beautiful.

Stunning

An evocative tale of the depression and the life of Sutree, who we meet living on a houseboat on the river eeking out a living catching fish and selling what he catches to stay alive. Rich in description of the time and place Cormac Macarthy does what he does best yet again with his gift for bring to life times past and the all kinds of characters who are beliveable and recognizable. A story with pathos and poinient, raw and often uncomfortable in the power of his descriptive narative.

He is undoubtedly a master story teller, this story will move the listener and be prepared to be deeply touched by its rawness.
