Faye Longchamp’s new archaeological firm has landed a project in St. Augustine, Florida. In four centuries, America’s oldest city has accumulated skeletons that should probably stay buried. Within a day of Faye’s arrival, a woman disappears, leaving behind blood, priceless artifacts, and a note asking for Faye’s help.

The detective hires Faye to find the artifacts’ origin, but the ghosts of the Ancient City are demanding masters, and Faye is also driven to uncover their secrets - until it becomes clear that what they seek is Faye herself. And her child.

Mary Anna Evans, award-winning author of the six Faye Longchamp mysteries, has degrees in physics and engineering, but her heart is in the past. Her books have found an unexpected home in schools, and when she’s not writing novels, she works with teachers to develop ways to use popular fiction to teach math, science, and history to kids.

Eleştirmen yorumları

“Evans explores themes of protection, love, and loss in her absorbing sixth Faye Longchamp mystery…Compelling extracts from a sixteenth-century Spanish priest’s manuscript diary that Faye begins translating lend historical ballast. Determined that old mysteries see the light of day, the feisty Faye never gives up until justice is done.” (Publishers Weekly)

The story just dragged on and on and on....for me, but I had to see it through because I'd started it. I read so many good reviews and thought it would be more about treasure, history, archaeology but instead it seemed to be more about one man's endeavors to steal a child for his wife.....

The story just dragged on and on and on.....

Unlike other reviewers I really enjoyed this book. It’s history of the region is interesting, the characters are rounded and the story and narrator are also good.

There are audiobooks you are listening to just to kill time and after a while you don't even remember what was it about. It's one of this kind of books. But there was something particularly annoying in the description of characters. I can't put a finger on it, but if I had to I would say they were described in such a stereotypical way they felt unrealistic and sometimes I felt that the narratotor (I wouldn't dare to say the author) talks about people in general with condescension. And those descritpion of pregnancy. Those parts were boring, annoying and didn't bring anything to the story.

I can't belive there is more books in the series
