Wow this was fantastic! I wasn't totally sure what to expect as both author and narrator were new to me, and historical fiction is not my usual, but it came highly recommended via a Facebook group so I thought I'd give it a try. I will admit it took me a few chapters to get into the story - I think because it was so different than I'm used to, but then I was hooked. The world was fully fleshed out and believable, the characters complex with great histories, and I was utterly drawn in to this exciting story. The romance is so sweet and I loved how it developed, it's male-male, very low steam (some kissing, light fondling then fade to black). This is a series, so although a HFN ending that's not a cliffhanger so you could stop here, there's definitely a huge ongoing plot with many loose threads yet.

The narrator, wow I loved him! Same with the overall story, I took a few chapters to get into the voice. I see other people have said it was monotone - I think I can see why they hear it that way, but honestly it just took me a bit of time to get used to a new voice. Once I did I was rapidly captivated and crikey his voice for Arthur was incredibly sexy! The sample alone is not enough to do him justice at all.

This book is not tagged as LGBT, which is probably why I've not come across it before, but I'll be looking for more from both author and narrator very soon. Great job all round!

This is an interesting story. Well written and with likeable characters. The narration is good as well.

This book has a great story and it flows really well and has definitely left me wanting more! On to the next book in the series

New York, 1925, with secret magical abilities around among some people. Nothing felt new in this historical urban fantasy story, but it's a good read with a cute MM romance. I'd listen to the next book in the trilogy but I'd be okay not continuing too.

I adored this story. it was well written and pacy with none of the long info dumps and purple prose one finds in so many books nowadays. My only issue was with the narration which sounded nearly robotic at times. The lack of discernable accents made it tricky to know whose dialogue the narrator was reading sometimes. its a shame as the story itself was wonderful and I am eagerly awaiting the sequel in May 2020.
