Since 1980, depth psychologist Bill Plotkin has been guiding women and men into the wilderness - the redrock canyons and snow-crested mountains of the American West - but also into the wilds of the soul. He calls this work soulcraft.

There's a great longing in all people to uncover the secrets and mysteries of our individual lives, to find the unique gift we were born to bring to our communities, and to experience our full membership in the more-than-human world. This journey to soul is a descent into layers of the self, much deeper than personality, a journey meant for each one of us, not just for the heroes and heroines of mythology.

A modern handbook for the journey, Soulcraft is not an imitation of indigenous ways, but a contemporary nature-based approach born from wilderness experience, the traditions of Western culture, and the cross-cultural heritage of all humanity. Filled with stories, poems, and guidelines, Soulcraft introduces over 40 practices that facilitate the descent to soul, including dreamwork, wilderness vision fasts, talking across the species boundaries, council, self-designed ceremony, nature-based shadow work, and the arts of romance, being lost, and storytelling.

This incredible book answers a lot of questions and covers so much information and had me the listener intrigued and holding on to his every word. His voice is so appropriate and confirmed a lot I know and gave me more information. I have listened to it many times and never tire of its incredible wisdom and passion. A must listen for everyone especially interested in our soul, nature and growth towards wholeness and finding your soul’s path.

Incredible researched and delivered

In current spirituality there seems to be an overemphasis on ascending. Breaking free from the highs and lows of our human everyday lives. Bill Plotkin offers a counterpart to spiritual ascent, soul descent. As every positive pole needs a negative, so ascent needs descent. He masterfully weaves intimate and personal stories to illustrate how and why we all should seek out soul initiation and why the underworld journey is important to all seeking their true path and unearthing their gift to the world.

To ascend we need to descend

I loved this book but I have to admit I find the voice tricky to come to terms with. There is so little emotion or creative performance.

Amazing book, not as good reader

This book has arrived at the perfect time. Whilst the narrator is somehow overly expressive and yet monotone, it doesn’t take away from this in depth look at soul discovery and exploration. Have bought the book as well which I rarely do!

Just what I needed!

Especially parents… so we can make for more soul -centred children. I love Bill Plotkins work and this is probably his most accessible and life changing work. The narration is fine, if lacking a little emotion.

Every human needs to understand these concepts
