Özet

A crime scene. A murder. A mystery. The most important person on the scene? The forensic scientist. And yet the intricate details of their work remains a mystery to most of us.

Silent Witnesses looks at the history of forensic science over the last two centuries, during which time a combination of remarkable intuition, painstaking observation, and leaps in scientific knowledge have developed this fascinating branch of detection. Throwing open the casebook, it introduces us to such luminaries as 'The Wizard of Berkeley' Edward Heinrich, who is credited with having solved over 2,000 crimes, and Alphonse Bertillon, the French scientist whose guiding principle 'no two individuals share the same characteristics' became the core of identification.

Along the way, it takes us to India and Australia, Columbia and China, Russia, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy. And it proves that, in order to solve ever more complicated cases, science must always stay one step ahead of the killer.

I really enjoyed listening to this book it was set out in an easy neurological order using each facet that have come to the police's aid to catch a criminal in order so that by the end there was discussion on DNA. It really is a very important book to read if you enjoy books about factual crimes and how they were punished or and also detected very interesting, I would recommend to anybody who's interested in the whole process of murder and the way that we work to catch people who have murdered others.

Just phenomenal written clearly and concisely

It’s a slow start becoming much more engaging as it progresses. The content is what you might expect; a chronological overview of the progression & understanding of forensic pathology through the ages and its implications in certain landmark cases. I wish the author had also included more current cases & more modern techniques of which I’m sure there must be many to choose from, also, it just felt like too narrow of an overview. Although I’m unsure what my expectations were for & from this book, I still feel somewhat underwhelmed after reading it. Excellent narration by William Gaminara.

It's... alright. 3.5/5

This is the best work concerning forensics and wonderfully read. Incredible truth over fiction. If you like VSI NCIS'S Abbey you will love this. should be 'properly' serialised for TV, it would be a massive hit.

WOW! A fascinating read
