Marshal Teddy Daniels has come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane, to find an escaped murderer named Rachel Solando.

As a killer hurricane bears down on the island, the investigation deepens, and the questions mount. How has a barefoot woman escaped from a locked room? Who is leaving them clues in the form of cryptic codes? And what really goes on in Ward C?

The closer Teddy gets to the truth, the more elusive it becomes. And the more he begins to believe that he may never leave Shutter Island. Because someone is trying to drive him insane....

I saw this book as a film years ago on a plane and remember thinking how clever and shocking it was. I wanted to read the book to see if the source material was as good (because books usually are better) and I wasn’t disappointed.

Even though I had a vague memory of the story and the ending, it still had me gripped. I couldn’t put it down (or take headphones off!). The narrator is one of the best I’ve heard yet. He really bought something extra to it.

Buy it, you’ll not be disappointed.

A brilliant story, brilliantly told

Ive already seen the film so knew the plot.
However, if reading it before watching, I would say there are enough twists and turns to keep the reader hooked.
The film is very true to the book

As good as the film!

An excellent book, very well performed. My only regret is that I didn't find the book before the film.. that twist would have been an all-timer.

Excellent despite having watched the film already.

One of the best books I've ever listened to. Mystery, action, thriller and a dose of psychology.

Lehane makes you feel for the characters, creates picture perfect images in your mind and keeps you hooked right to the end.

Narrator does a fine job.

What more do you want out of a book?

Lehane at his best
