Penguin presents the audiobook edition of She Lies in Wait by Gytha Lodge, read by John Hopkins, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Joe Coen and Gytha Lodge.

Six friends. One killer. Whom do you trust?

On a hot July night in 1983, six school friends go camping in the forest. Bright and brilliant, they are destined for great things, and young Aurora Jackson is dazzled to be allowed to tag along.

Thirty years later, a body is discovered. DCI Sheens is called to the scene, but he already knows what's waiting for him: Aurora Jackson, found at long last.

But that's not all. The friends have all maintained their innocence, but the body is found in a hideaway only the six of them knew about.

It seems the killer has always lurked very close to home....

This fell into my category of okayish. I stuck with it for many reasons. It was well narrated and not obvious who did it until way past the middle. The story was just mundane. A group of kids, off their heads having sex. yawn boring! A body found years later....I don't have to say more. I've given it two stars because I like to finish a book and feel a loss. This time I had no qualms about finishing it, no loss at all. I wouldn't exactly put anyone off as I'm probably nit picking but for me it was a damp squib.

Absolutely fantastic. Great gripping storyline, plenty of unexpected twists and fantastic narration, would highly recommend

The book has a great premise—six teenagers enter the woods, but only five return. I enjoyed it overall, though I was hoping for something more, maybe a bit darker. The writing is solid, but the story felt a little flat at times. It plays out across two timelines, with Aurora’s perspective on the night of her being the most compelling. I did find it a bit convenient that the suspects suddenly recalled details from 30 years ago. While there were some twists, I did manage to guess the culprit. The narration was enjoyable, and the author did an especially great job with Aurora’s parts.

Really enjoyed this listen, from start to finish. It was very easy to follow and great to have the story read by different voices which gave a good contrast between the two stories, which unfolded in tandem while the killer was revealed. I'd recommend to all as a must read/listen!

A gripping who done it

Fantastic book and excellent narration. I finished the first 5 books in the series within a week. I’m now feeling bereft and so looking forward to the next book.
