Simon Serrailler has just wrapped up an exhausting and difficult case for SIFT – Special Incident Flying Taskforce – and is on a sabbatical on a Scottish island when he is recalled to Lafferton. Two local prostitutes have vanished and are subsequently found strangled. By the time he gets back, another girl has disappeared. Is this a vendetta against prostitutes by someone with a warped mind? Or a series of killings by an angry punter? But then one of the Cathedral wives goes missing, followed by another young married woman.

You won't be disappointed with this book. I'm quite hard to please and usually plump for Simon Kernick, Mark Billingham and Peter James' type books but this one was great and the storyline is well worth 5 stars.

It kept me guessing right up to the end of the book and the resulting discovery was a total shock and made more so by the revelation of who the murderer was!!!!

You won't be disappointed I'm sure!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - Susan Hill is an excellent writer and the plots are reliably good

Who was your favorite character and why?

I'm not sure - I am definitely not keen on Simon Serailler himself, but I think that is in some ways the author's intention. I always like the characters around him, which is why I keep listening.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Steven Pacey?

I have listened to all the Simon Serailler audio books, so yes. However I don't love how the actor voices female characters as they always sound rather simpering. I realise it's difficult for a male voice to do the opposite sex (and vice versa), but it is rather irritating.

Well-written, good story

As these stories are moving along and following Simon and his family they are becoming more believable as characters.

Much better

Susan Hill and the fabulous Simon Serrailler bought to life by the unmistakable voice of Steven Pacey has done it agsin. Each book gets better and better. Can't wait to continue the story of this complicated policeman who I think I am a little bit in love with!

Entertaining and gripping
