The terrifying story of the most monstrous serial killers through history.

Serial killers are the most notorious and disturbing of all criminals, representing the very darkest side of humanity. Yet they endlessly fascinate and continue to capture the public's attention with their strange charisma and deadly deeds. From Jack the Ripper to Ted Bundy and the Moors Murderers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley, these killers transfix us with their ability to commit utterly savage acts of cruelty and depravity.

Only with modern police detection methods and psychological profiling have these figures that have existed throughout human history finally been identified in the deadliest category: serial killers. These methods, the killers' characters and their crimes are described here in fascinating and terrifyingly gripping detail. The whole history of serial killers is brought to life in 50 chapters, including:

  • Herman Webster Mudgett
  • Devil in the White City
  • John Christie
  • The 10 Rillington Place Murders
  • The Zodiac Killer
  • Ian Brady and Myra Hindley, the Moors Murderers
  • Ted Bundy
  • Fred and Rosemary West
  • Jeffrey Dahmer
  • Aileen Wuornos
  • Harold Shipman, Dr Death.

my interest in true crime stems from psychological or social perspectives. this is ok but it just gives lots of facts, more like a general guide. it is read quite well, but I struggled to engage

ok but nothing new learned

I think the stories were good but too short . Each case was desperately squeezed in few minutes review as if the author want to include in the book every serial killer ever existed.
Chapters not clearly divided . Easy to loose tract while one ends and next starts . Performance of the narrator not grate. Make the book very monotonous.

Excellent introduction to the serial killers he covers and very well researched. However I feel sometimes he is just getting in to telling there story but then stops short, bit overall a good introduction.

Good Introduction

The author conveys over 30 examples of the worst behaviour humans are able to commit against one another (and animals). He even admits that by far the greater number of such crimes happen in the US. Because of this, the US concocted the Cold War lie that just as much crime happened in the Socialist USSR as it did in the capitalist West - and the reason it was unknown in the West was because the Soviet government suppressed all reporting about it. Unfortunately, this author parrots this lie as if it were true. The fact is the crime rate was very low in the USSR and it is interesting to observe just how many Western authors are prone to live in denial of this fact. Ironically, perpetuating the crime of 'fake news' whilst purporting to be reporting on the subject of 'crime'!

Good Selection of Cases of Human Depravity

This breaks down many serial killers and gives an insight into each of them and their crimes. It’s interesting. A definite must for those who enjoy the darker side of life

A little evil
