Once Upon a Time,
There was a king who passed.
He left behind two sons,
one beloved and one outcast.
The older of the two was set to take the throne,
but before he could, he had to find a queen to call his own.
The younger one was known to be unruly and unhinged.
The chosen queen was warned to keep far away from him.
Beautiful and cunning, in the light is where she stayed.
But late at night, it was the shadowed lands in which she played.
Mistakes were made and secrets forged;
forgetting duty and her sense.
And while the new king had her hand,
her heart belonged to the scarred prince.

Scarred is a dark royal romance. It is not a retelling, and it is not fantasy. It has mature situations and themes which may be considered triggers for some. Listener discretion is advised.

First things first: the narrators did an excellent job. The contrast between the dark MMC voice and the lighter FMC voice was fun to listen to. The story however, not my favorite of the series.

Good narrators

I didn't realise this was set in the past, 1910 to be exact. Still I enjoyed it. There is lots of tension and yearning and conflicting emotions at play here. Sara is a strong, kickass heroine but Tristan doesn't really have any redeemable qualities at all (I think when the mmc tortures his own best friend it says something....)
The spice has some k!nky elements to it but it took a really long time to happen.
The narration was good but there are some minor differences that were a bit annoying, for example the audio said hyenas and little lion but the ebook says jackals and little tiger. I truly don't understand the need for the change and it was annoying enough I removed 1 star.

Dark historical romance

On the whole I enjoyed the plot and this take on the lion King. I was not a fan of all the torture though. Tristan and Sara were both pretty sadistic which wasn't very nice and their sex scenes where also a bit too explicit for my liking. #dark

Too much torture!

Brilliant twisted dark romance of The Lion King. The author and the narrates did a brilliant job.

I loved the story, my only negative comment would be that Tristans voice didn't feel right. he sounded too old. other than that the story was good, with nice little twists

amazing story
