The capital has fallen. The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.

Now the nation's fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.

Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.

Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova's amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling's secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction - and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for. Ruin and Rising is the thrilling final installment in Leigh Bardugo's Grisha Trilogy.

Much like many other books in this genre, this series was full of padding (read: unnecessary side stories) and not enough complexity. Oh, how I’d hoped that there’d be a twist in the tale around the darkling but he was simply allowed to go on as a straight forward villain, nothing unexpected in any way. And Alina and Mal....sigh. How boring and predictable.

Could have been so much more

Struggled to finish. Seemed too drawn out in the end. Expected more of the end of an otherwise good trilogy

A bit boring finish

Probably my favourite book of the trilogy and it only becomes more enjoyable with each chapter. Questions are answered and the world is expanded - we see more of Ravka here than in the previous books. Characters develop well and I look forward to reading more of Bardugos' books.

I mean, it was OK, but wasn't the sweeping finish the story deserved and it all felt a bit rushed.

Short and a little disappointing
