Rip Van Winkle lives in a nice village at the foot of New York's Catskill Mountains. One autumn day he escapes his nagging wife by wandering up the mountains. After encountering strangely dressed men, rumored to be the ghosts of Henry Hudson's crew, who are playing nine-pins, and after drinking some of their liquor, he settles down under a shady tree and falls asleep. He wakes up 20 years later and returns to his village.Public Domain (P)2008 Audible, Inc. Anthologies & Short Stories Classics Literary History & Criticism Short Stories

Editör yorumları

Christian Rummel brings Washington Irving’s classic American tale to life in this audio edition of Rip Van Winkle. With its playful performance, young and old alike will delight at the story of funny old Rip’s strange experiences in the woods of New York’s Catskill mountains, bowling and drinking with peculiar figures, and taking a nap that lasts 20 years too long. This tale that tackles the supernatural with humor, along with his more macabre The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, situated Washington Irving firmly in the cannon of American folklore and made Rip one of its most memorable characters. Whether you know the story or not it's worth returning to again and again - like a ghost from the past or a dream of lost time.

I read this wonderful story over 40 years ago and just now listened to this charming performance of it. Twice the span of Rip Van Winkle's sleep. I feel a lot of kinship with the main character. Highly recommended version.
