“All magic is beautiful...and terrible. Do you not see the beauty in yours, nor the terror in mine? You can stop a heart, and I can stop your breath.”

She is heir to a Sultanate that once ruled the world. He is an unwanted prince with the power to destroy. She is order and intellect, a woman fit to rule in a man's place. He is chaos and violence and will stop at nothing to protect his people.

His magic answers hers with shadow for light. They need each other, but the cost of balance may be too high a price. Magic is dying and the only way to save it is to enlist mages who wield the forbidden power of death, mages cast out centuries ago in a brutal and bloody war.

Now, a new war is coming. Science and machines to replace magic and old religion.

They must find a way to save their people from annihilation and balance the sacred Wheel—but first, they will have to balance their own forbidden passion. His peace for her tempest, his restlessness for her calm.

Night and day, dusk and dawn, the end, and the beginning.

Loved it! I was so captivated by the story, that I ended up going to sleep at 4 o’clock in the morning

book is excellent 100/10. I do not like the male reader doing the female main characters voice, it's off-putting. I also found his tone too baritone that it reverberated my speakers and echoed in the room because of it (even reducing the audio bass settings didn't help...), and I had to play the book louder than preferred sometimes to hear and understand as he rumbled a bit much. Female reader was absolutely excellent in all aspects.

excellent book and female narrator

My new favourite story. The characters are wonderful, especially the two main characters. The best female character I have ever read, for sure. The scenes and expressions were so well described I felt I was in the room with them. I loved the narrators too.

Just amazing

This book totally deserves more hype. Can’t wait to get to the others in the series.

Definitely recommended reading

This was difficult to put down. Their magical system was fascinating, the political intrigue was sooooo frustrating, the characters were either likable or detestable, but the more important part is our couple. I LOVED THE COUPLE. I love a strong fmc and a devoted mmc. It is extreme slow burn 🔥 and when it starts to happen it is more of a sensual, poetic dance than an outright explicit affair.
It's on KU and audible subscription, too.
