Living with her partner, Tony, his parents and their precocious teenage son, Alberta Granger considers she belongs to the perfect modern extended family. Her catering business is booming and her daughter, Hannah, is embarking on a glittering career. In fact, Alberta’s only preoccupation is why Tony seems unduly upset by his ex-wife’s forthcoming marriage.

But some shocking news is about to rock Bertie’s world to its foundations. As a torrent of tabloid headlines engulfs the family in a very public scandal, she is forced to face the fact that some of her nearest and dearest have been leading mysterious double lives she knew nothing about. As revelation follows revelation, old wounds re-open and former grudges re-surface.

A story with interesting plot twists and some surprising outcomes, I felt that it's less predictable than most books of this genre. Alberta is a spirited character with some amusing temper flares, mainly directed towards someone who I think was called Daniel. A large part of the book seems to be devoted to whether or not she'll be tempted to succumb to his questionable charms. Entertainingly read and brought to life by Jilly Bond.

Unpredictable plot!
