None of them wanted to leave Earth. It might have been nightmarish, but it was all they knew.

Gary wanted to concentrate on his exams in hopes of leaving the CityBlock and its bullies far behind. Kailee wanted to become an actress. Darrin merely wanted to live. But when the three teenagers win a competition, they find themselves taking the trip of a lifetime, a voyage to a colony world where they can see how the colonists live.

Meridian is very different from the dark and dismal CityBlock, a place where they can make a new beginning. But it also houses dangers, dangers that their education on Earth didn't even begin to prepare them to face, dangers governed by the cold equations of survival. And when disaster strikes, they find themselves forced to fight for their lives—or die, alone and unloved, thousands of light years from home.

Another change of pace. This was an interesting break from the main theme and could well be listened to as a stand alone book. Again, well done.

Didn't expect to enjoy this one going by one or two of the reviews but it turned out to be one of the best in the series. Its also very thought provoking.

One Of The Best So Far

If you could sum up Reality Check in three words, what would they be?

Heroic, didactic, entertaining

What other book might you compare Reality Check to, and why?

Fountainhead for teenagers

Which character – as performed by Jeffrey Kafer – was your favourite?

They were all slightly one dimensional, I assume that was intentional though and the value was in it's moral lesson about the flawed nature of humanity

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I had the time, yes

An objectivist morality tale

This is the third time the author relates to virginity being something physical, something you can inspect or which can be broken and bleed. It's however about the five hundredth time rape is used as a plot tool. And still with the boob descriptions. The story would be so much better without that old tired crap.

More rape, more boobs
