She’s promised to me, and I’ll damn well have her.

Mariana may have gone through hell, but she doesn’t get to make decisions right now. She was promised to me by her father, the second she was born. Our families made a pact to preserve the future of the clans.

We’re the destined King and Queen of the Romanian Mob. Now, after being trapped for years at the hands of a psychopath - after I’ve rescued her, I might add - the sassy woman wants to play games. She can play all she wants, but the only thing she’ll be doing is losing.

Promised is a full-length novel that can be listened to as a stand-alone in the Clans. You do not have to listen to the series from book one but is recommended. Happy listening!

If you enjoy mafia romance this one is for you. Dark, edgy, undertones and a heroine who is in the middle of a power play and she is the pawn, so to speak.
Amber Bray did a good job telling us about all of Mariana’s suitors.

The story was very engrossing but it has a lot of rough scenes and dark triggers. I was worried she would be in one bad situation after another but she ended up finding a way. I was amazed at her spirit. The narrator did a great job.

A good mafia romance starter. It could have more background on their relationship before she disappeared. I wanted a feel of his feelings before he found her. I loved how he never gave up on her even after she returned and wanted to make sure he was the one.

Promised does stand alone, though it ends with more of a HFN, like an episode in a series where the immediate threat is wrapped up but you know the story isn't entirely over. I would recommend this book to those who are fans of mafia/mob romance.

The story does include details of abuse, and I did struggle a little bit with how someone could have one set of values for their family yet still be okay with buying/selling women who weren't related to them. I actually wasn't sure if Ion would end up being one of the protagonists as he didn't make a great first impression (and it would be cool to have another perspective thrown in to keep the reader guessing).

Amber Bray did a great job with the narration. She does really well performing the dual points of view by herself, probably the best narrator I've listened to with handling both perspectives on her own. My only complaint is that there were occasional times where the intensity seemed a little over done.
