Now a major TV series from Apple TV+ starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

'Scott Turow is master of the legal thriller' – The Guardian

From the godfather of the legal thriller, Presumed Innocent by Scott Turow is a gripping courtroom drama about ambition, hypocrisy and justice.

Carolyn Polhemus was an assistant prosecuting attorney, intelligent and full of promise. When she is found dead – assaulted and strangled – the curtain is pulled on a dark, tangled web of sex, corruption and betrayal.

Before long, prosecutor Rusty Sabich stands accused of her murder. He was having an affair with Carolyn – the motive seems clear-cut. With no one to trust, it is up to Rusty to uncover the truth behind this deadly crime – and prove his innocence in the process . . .

Praise for Scott Turow:

'Head-and-shoulders above others in the legal thriller genre he created' – The Observer

'A brilliant chronicler of contemporary America' – The Sunday Times

'Turow does legal thrillers better than anyone else' – Irish Independent

'Worthy to be ranked with Dashiell Hammet or Raymond Chandler' – The New York Times

'No one writes better mystery suspense novels than Scott Turow' – Los Angeles Times

I really enjoyed this, the first booki have listened to of this author but probably not the last. I found the plot to be believable and the characters well drawn. I found the plot twists were very well done and I was kept guessing throughout. A great listen and one I would recommend.

Intricate story expertly told

even though Presumed Innocent is an old Scott Turow novel, it hasn't lost relevance or impact, still a great story

15 hrs was pretty long - I only listen to audiobooks during gym workouts so took a few weeks, but I never once got bored, the story moved at a great rate

I haven't seen the TV series, so maybe that was a good thing too

As for Edward Herrmann - what a stunning narrator, wow, really great - a big loss to the world of entertainment

I'll certainly add the follow up Innocent to my basket - well worth buying and I have a few other Scott Turow's teed up - I love his books

Definitely a 5 star review

Brilliant performance by an outstanding narrator.

Just bought the next in the series and hope it’s even half as good.

The detailed unravelling of a complex plot. Beautifully written and crafted.

I bought this book following watching the tv series. I found it hard to listen to mostly because of the droll narrator and difficult names. The story is good and ends satisfyingly. I would not listen to Scott’s second book mainly due to the narrator.

Good story twist

An enjoyable read but narrative heavy/ dialogue light. Much reads like a 40's detective noir with the first person perspective overriding dialogue and consequently character building is weak. and there are a lot of characters to get your head around, possibly too many than waa necessary for a novel.

Lacks real thrill though, there aren't many edge of the seat or cliff edge moments because everything is delivered in slow burn first party narration.

I can see why they made drastic changes to the movie versions plot, to add some excitement because the ending is a definite anticlimax.

The courtroom scenes are however done with excellent attention to legal and behavioural detail.

Good legal thriller but lacks substance
