The UFS Phoenix returns to Homeworld, after more than three years of searching the galaxy for a way to save humanity from the looming AI threat. Many Fleet captains are unhappy with their own command, following the massive casualties of Nia's first strike. Some say that Captain Erik Debogande is the war leader humanity truly needs. Others warn of civil war. But on Homeworld lurks an even older threat, a secret kept by Fleet Command since Homeworld's first conquest by humans. A secret that could tear Fleet, and Erik's powerful family, apart.

Story went in a different direction to the one I expected. Whilst keep true to all the characters in this series?

A solid story and this series of box

I liked how he showed the greyness of what Eric is doing how not everyone on homeworld agrees with his approach. Also I get a hint of Eric drifting towards Authorianism which I think could be setting up a fantastic ending to the series.

very good addition to the series

John Lee is, as always, a perfect fit for this genre. His narration is consistent, well-paced, and lends a solid tone to the series. While this entry once again shifts away from starship battles and toward more terrestrial conflict, the story continues to build an interesting universe with mysteries to uncover and challenges to overcome. I missed the naval elements, but the book still delivered an enjoyable experience. Looking forward to what’s next.

Reliable continuation, light on starship action
