*DETECTIVE HOLE IS SOON TO BE A MAJOR NETFLIX SERIES*

The police urgently need Harry Hole.

A killer is stalking Oslo's streets. Police officers are being slain at the scenes of crimes they once investigated, but failed to solve. The murders are brutal, the media reaction hysterical.

But this time, Harry can't help anyone.

For years, detective Harry Hole has been at the centre of every major criminal investigation in Oslo. His dedication to his job and his brilliant insights have saved the lives of countless people. But now, with those he loves most facing terrible danger, Harry can't protect anyone.

Least of all himself.

Eleştirmen yorumları

Boasts the customary ability to render attempts at work and sleep futile until it is finished (Jake Kerridge)
As usual, the brilliant Nesbo is several steps ahead of you in this endlessly twisting, multi-layered thriller that also shines a light on the murky areas of Norway’s upper echelons (Natasha Harding)
Scandinavian crime thrillers don’t come much darker or more tense than the best-selling Harry Hole series, and this tenth outing for the Norwegian detective is the best yet (Deirdre O’Brien)
In the dark world of Scandinavian crime, Jo Nesbo's novels are darker than most… Settle down with a glass of Akvavit and prepare for a long night
Resistance is futile: Nesbo has some rare, Ancient Mariner-type gift for holding his readers completely in thrall until he has finished with us (Jake Kerridge)
Nesbo’s best since The Snowman … Particularly strong in portraying the interaction between cops
A terrifying roller-coaster (Myles McWeeney)
It's easy to see why his books are mega-sellers – those enormous, pulsating plots drag you in without mercy... Compulsive (Iain Finlayson/Kate Saunders)
In Harry Hole, [Nesbo has] created the most complex, compelling and at times frustrating detective... Probably his best yet (Cherie Blair)
Fans of the series will know what to expect, and won't be disappointed

Without any spoilers it's hard to say too much! Barrett is as amazing as always and there is edge-of-seat tension as always.

I'm getting a bit bored of the 'Oh my God it's him/her....oh no it's not it's him/her.....oh no it's....' style that Nesbo uses. It's a good technique but he's starting to over-play it, it feels too contrived and as a listener I feel that some bits are deliberately kept back in order to build suspense, which of course they are, but Nesbo's skill is not letting you reslise that!

Still, it's another great story with loads of twists and sets up the next one.......

As you'd expect.

I thought this would be a prequel, as in the last Harry Hole he was killed off, but it said on the cover - he's back - so I'm not giving anything away. Throughout the book this uncertainty continues. People get knocked off but will it be who you think, and by the person you thought?
The author keeps it up right to the end.
Excellent

Still going

What did you like best about this story?

Well written characterisation. Many twists and turns - impossible to tell when and what the next scary experience is going to be. I actually jumped chapters when i just couldn't take any more horrors - especially late at night. Still good and had to finish the book.

Have you listened to any of Sean Barrett’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No but he's good varying from creepy to warm perfectly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes - gripping yes but also a lot of Norwegian names to get your head around - the women's names were easier.

Any additional comments?

It is going to be a long tome until I can get the 'eyeballs' and fridge episode out of my mind!

You need a strong stomach!

I reckon this was well worth the wait, just unhappy to have finished it. The twists and turns are getting better as well. I found myself staring, open mouthed, on a few occasions.

Great, yet again!

It's got everything! A great story, full of interest with twists and turns, brilliant characterisations and narrated by one of the best in the business, Sean Barrett. I loved it!

Probably the best Harry Hole in the series
