Salvation is the first mesmerising space opera in the legendary Salvation Sequence, by Peter F. Hamilton. For fans of Iain M. Banks and James S. A. Corey.

‘A twisty and hugely satisfying SF thriller that opens a portal on a new and exciting series’ – Alastair Reynolds, author of Revelation Space

Know your enemy – or be defeated.

An alien shipwreck is found on a newly discovered world, and it carries a cargo as strange as it is horrifying. Security Director Feriton Kayne assembles a high-powered squad to assess the threat. But one of the group is hiding something – it will be up to the team to bring back answers, answers that will change everything . . .

Back on Earth, humanity can extend lifespans indefinitely, travel to the stars via portal technology and even make deserts bloom. We seem invulnerable. So when the alien Olyix contacted us, years earlier, we welcomed them. They needed fuel for their pilgrimage across the galaxy – and in exchange they helped advance our technology. But will they prove a blessing – or a curse?

‘A startlingly fresh, vigorous and original cosmic saga’ – Stephen Baxter

‘Crammed with cutting-edge ideas’ – The Guardian

‘Exciting, wildly imaginative and quite possible Hamilton’s best book to date’ – SFX Magazine, 5 Stars

The owner of the most powerful imagination in science fiction (Ken Follett, author of The Pillars of the Earth)
One of the best in the field . . . Salvation is a twisty and hugely satisfying SF thriller that opens a portal on a new and exciting series (Alastair Reynolds, author of Revelation Space)
Explosions! Assassins! Enigmatic aliens, spaceships and jump doors. Conspiracies and ancient mysteries – it’s all here. Accept no substitutes, this is the real deal. You need Salvation, my friend. Everyone needs salvation (Ian McDonald, author of New Moon)
Salvation is a space-opera intrigue with a cold shock of an ending that makes the sequel a matter of urgency (Ken MacLeod, author of Cosmonaut Keep)
Techno-thriller, far-future vision and action adventure shaken to an intoxicating combination. A promising start to an ambitious new series (Justina Robson, author of Keeping It Real)
Hamilton handles massive ideas with enviable ease
Hugely impressive . . . nobody does BIG SF quite like Hamilton (SFX on Peter's books)
A vast, intricate sci-fi showstopper
How far 'space opera' has gone!

Peter F Hamilton books are always thrilling roller-coaster rides of multiple interwoven storylines. This one was no exception.
The only thing that spoilt my enjoyment of this book was the awful narration. In particular:
* The weird cadence used. I can understand that it's an affectation of one character, but all of them? Odd words emphasised, over pronunciation of random words.
* Accents. If you can't do them properly, don't do them. By the end I couldn't tell who was who anymore, because all the people basically had the same russo-glaswegian accent.

Great book let down by the narration

An interesting storyline but almost impossible to listen to. The accent and, in particular, the intonation of the narration was beyond irritating!

Decent story spoiled by terrible narration

The preamble of this book sounded so appealing that I made the fatal error or purchasing quickly rather than listening to the preview. The narrator annunciates every sentence with a skill that probably comes from years of performing on stage. Unfortunately, half an hour into my commute, I was so on edge with the issue that I was expecting something to happen every single second that I had to end the pain. Audible producers have yet to understand that the vast majority of its customers prefer to listen to a book as we'd read it ourselves, not imagining ourselves sat in the Roundhouse in the 16th Century. There's a reason R.C. Bray is one of the most respected narrators of audiobooks - he's one of us.
I am considering purchasing the book on Kindle as the initial story appeal has not been lost. I gave this presentation 3* as I don't know whether it's good, bad or indifferent - I simply couldn't get past the first chapter.

Shakespearean narration not for me

Gripping from start to finish. I simply can't wait to find out where the story will go.
