This Penguin Classic is performed by Erin Doherty. Star of Call The Midwife, Erin will play Princess Anne in Series 3 of The Crown. This definitive recording includes an Introduction by Gillian Beer.

At twenty-seven, Anne Elliot is no longer young and has few romantic prospects. Eight years earlier, she had been persuaded by her friend Lady Russell to break off her engagement to Frederick Wentworth, a handsome naval captain with neither fortune nor rank. What happens when they encounter each other again is movingly told in Jane Austen's last completed novel. Set in the fashionable societies of Lyme Regis and Bath, Persuasion is a brilliant satire of vanity and pretension, but, above all, it is a love story tinged with the heartache of missed opportunities.

I am a huge fan of Jane Austen, and very much enjoyed this audiobook. Persuasion is a wonderful novel, and one of Austen's most mature works, alongside Mansfield Park. Excellent narration. Highly recommended.

So enjoyable

Obviously I love the book and I am a huge Jane Austen fan which makes me fussy about the reading. But I loved her voice and expression. Like the whole of this Penguin series the language and humour are showcased in these subtle readings.

This is a fresh, new reading of this spectacular book
