A gripping psychological thriller set on high seas. A transatlantic crossing that becomes a nightmare.

With no police to investigate and no escape, could it be the perfect setting for a crime? Martin Schwartz (Beesley) is an undercover detective who is recovering from his wife and sons' bizarre disappearance from a cruise ship 5 years ago. He is a desperate man willing to take big risks. Martin never wanted to step onto a cruise ship again until he receives a call which can't be ignored. On average, 23 people per year disappear without a trace from cruise ships. Never before has someone come back... until now.

Great story line which had many layers and twists. Really good performance. Enjoyed it a lot.

Lots of twists and turns

When this first started I wasn't sure if I would like it...it was more like listening to a radio show not the usual audible just reading book...but I soon got into it...some of the character voices were weaker than others... I thought that Max Beesley as the lead was excellent but the women weren't quite so engaging....it did go at a fairly fast pace, although I found my attention waning slight in the middle...but the end?...well with out spoiling it there were so many twists I never saw I was almost reeling by the end of the book...and everything tied up nicely which I like in a story (although the thing at the moment is to leave you wondering at the end which I hate) the prologue and the epilogue met so to speak ...a very enjoyable listen overall...it must have been because I cleaned up the whole house without noticing whilst listening and that for me is a sign of a good book!

More twists than a bendy road!

Really good story, just as you think you’ve heard the twist in the tale there’s another one! The only reason I knocked a star off was due to some of the long pauses and annoying editing!
Will probably be tempted to try another by the same author though.

I found this audiobook surprisingly good! As someone who enjoys cruising I felt it was insightful, also the story line was good and intriguing. I would recommend this audiobook if you are looking for a mystery/mild thriller.

Definitely worth a listen.

Would you consider the audio edition of Passenger 23 to be better than the print version?

Not sure. It was interesting having people "act" at times rather than narrate, but the levels were a bit inconsistent, sound effects unhelpful and I found the music annoying.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favourite?

Max Beesley seemed well-cast

Any additional comments?

A slightly different maverick detective and a very different storyline. I thought it was engaging and entertaining.

Pity about the cover art - the detective "acted" by Max was clearly described as bald, which Max isn't. An interesting idea, but I'd have been just as happy with a straightforward narration

A rather different sort of crime thriller
