The New York Times Bestseller

Jordan Peele, the visionary writer and director of Get Out, Us and Nope, curates this anthology of brand new stories of Black horror. Exploring not only the terrors of the supernatural but also the chilling reality of injustice that haunts our world.

'A glorious showcase of Black American horror' – The Guardian

Featuring an introduction written and read by Jordan Peele, a full cast of narrators accompanies the all-star roster of beloved writers and new voices. Out There Screaming is a masterclass in horror, and – like his spine-chilling films – its stories prey on everything we think we know about our world, and redefine what it means to be afraid. Very afraid . . .

Two freedom riders take a bus that leaves them stranded on a lonely road in Alabama, where several unsettling somethings await them. A young girl dives into the watery depths in search of the demon that killed her parents. Monster-hunters fighting monsters, humanoid AIs fighting for their rights, and an Igbo woman standing up to a powerful spirit.

Featuring stories by: Erin E. Adams, Violet Allen, Lesley Nneka Arimah, Maurice Broaddus, Chesya Burke, P. Djèlí Clark, Ezra Claytan Daniels, Tananarive Due, Nalo Hopkinson, N. K. Jemisin, Justin C. Key, L. D. Lewis, Nnedi Okorafor, Tochi Onyebuchi, Rebecca Roanhorse, Nicole D. Sconiers, Rion Amilcar Scott, Terence Taylor and Cadwell Turnbull.

'A brilliant anthology of stories that will keep you awake at night and linger with you in the day. I loved it.' – Daisy Johnson

Not only likely to be the best anthology of the year, but one for the ages.
These tales are all both gruesomely imaginative and firmly rooted in the realities of anti-Black racism and brutality—and there isn’t a weak one in the bunch. This is essential reading for any horror fan. (Publisher's Weekly (starred review))
Something special in time for Halloween.
What could be more cathartic than this thoroughly chilling collection of tales featuring spirits, monsters, sinister technology, foreboding hallucinations and more? Running the gamut from grounded-in-reality shocks to fully supernatural thrills there's something for horror fans of all varieties.
Real life (traffic stops) and real history (Freedom Riders, lynch mobs) meet speculative fiction and the supernatural in this bone-chilling collection.
An important work in the history of black horror fiction.
In Out There Screaming, [Peele] curates a roster of established names and breakthrough talent to showcase the abundant variety of macabre Black storytelling. It’s clearly conceived as a landmark collection
A brilliant anthology of stories that will keep you awake at night and linger with you in the day. I loved it. (Daisy Johnson, author of Everything Under)

Jordan Peele continues his mission to amplify black writers across all media. And here he, and each of the writers, and every single narrator, does an amazing job. Probably the best short-story collection I've ever read/listened to.

This collection is superb. Some of the stories had my jaw on the floor with the creativity and the simplicity. I am not normally a fan of short stories but I’m glad I took a chance on this one.

4.25* (edging to 4.5*)

A very mixed set of stories - genre/tropes, subject matter, and in a couple of cases, quality.

This isn't a pure horror collection, there's elements of scifi in some stories as well.

Notable standouts for me include Dark Home, The Rider, Flicker, Hide & Seek, The Most Strogest Obeah Woman of the World, and The Norwood Trouble.

Definitely read Jordan Peele's editors note as that captures the essence of what ties this collection together.
