In this extraordinary memoir, world-renowned guitarist Andy Summers provides a revealing and passionate account of a life dedicated to music. From his first guitar at age 13 and his early days on the English music scene to the ascendancy of his band, The Police, Summers recounts his relationships and encounters with the Big Roll Band, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, the Animals, John Belushi, and others, all the while proving himself a master of telling detail and dramatic anecdote.

But of course, the early work is only part of the story, and Andy's account of his role as guitarist for The Police---a gig that was only confirmed by a chance encounter with drummer Stewart Copeland on a London train---has been long-awaited by music fans worldwide. The heights of fame that The Police achieved have rarely been duplicated, and the band's triumphs were rivaled only by the personal chaos that such success brought about, an insight never lost on Summers in the telling.

One Train Later is a constantly surprising and poignant memoir, the work of a world-class musician and a first-class writer.

My constant companion for a week. Highly recommended for anyone who wants an insight into the post 60’s music scene

I thought it was great. I honestly had little idea of the backstory behind the police (and actually only a fleeting interest in the band), let alone Andy Summers' story. I learnt a lot. And for a music autobiography, it's very well written, avoiding a lot of the tabloid-esque detail with a greater focus on the music. Obviously an intelligent and well read guy. Obviously a great guitarist. Would've loved a bit of musical accompaniment in the book.

Well worth a listen

My goodness (Mate) I must take a feather out of Andy‘s cap because he had a massive rollercoaster and out of 70 autobiographies I think he’s probably the hardest working star

So dedicated to his guitar and Music for decades nailing it. I’m so sorry about the situation with royalties.. This is not talked about in the book but it’s grossly unfair and will spoil things legacy which after all this is only argument for keeping all the royalties

Andy, thank you for this amazing book . historical journey which at 59 I relate to every decade and I’ve actually worked too many of the studios that you’ve recorded in and I hopefully One day will bump into each other through mutual musos

An exhausting rollercoaster with a well-deserved climax

Brilliantly written and composed throughout by Andy and his softly spoken voice was perfect with the narration which made it easy listening and all the more enjoyable.
Fascinating insight to the band and all their inevitability of global superstar music and demise with the infighting, but still superb music. Great job by Andy one of the best guitarists and quiet one of the music industry in the early 80s of excess and showmanship. The man defies his age too - have you seen his pic lately? Can’t be 80 surely. Excellent bio recommend.

A truly insightful music bio
