WHEN GODS TURN VENGEFUL, ONLY THE BRAVE CAN DEFY FATE AND FIND THEIR WAY HOME

Discover Stephen Fry's epic re-telling of the Odyssey for the 21st century

After the fall of Troy, wily Odysseus, King of Ithaca, sails for home and his steadfast queen Penelope.

However, the angry gods curse him to wander the seas for ten long years. Tormented by giants and monsters, tempted by witches and goddesses, Odysseus battles to draw ever closer to home.

Awaiting him is Penelope, defying reports of his death. But this queen endures her own tormentors – an army of young suitors eager to claim her hand and the throne . . .

Odyssey completes his Greek Myths series in marvellous fashion. . . Fry, a born storyteller, succeeds again in making the ancient stories accessible, gently modernising the language and dotting his journey with explanatory and often amusing footnotes
Relatable and full of humour . . . Odyssey brings [the] four-book sequence satisfyingly to a close
Outstandingly entertaining quartet of books . . . Fry breathes contemporary relevance into these ancient tales. As with his previous titles, he combines scholarly research with a lightness of touch, and his wry sense of humour and natural gift for storytelling make for a highly engaging read
A sweeping, engrossing story
Imaginative
The familiar narrative bounds along in a chatty style, coloured with mildly revisionist insights into the characters
Accessible storytelling and Fry brings warmth, exuberance and humour. Hard to beat
A romp through the lives of ancient Greek gods. Fry is at his story-telling best . . . the gods will be pleased
A head-spinning marathon of legends
An odyssey through Greek mythology. Brilliant - all hail Stephen Fry

So entertaining, full of facts, the root of words, new insights into famous characters, real or mythical all delivered in Stephen's gorgeous, inviting and invigorating style, full of emotions, knowledge, authority but also with humour, wit and a nod to very modern concepts that show these stories are every bit as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago.

So when I get my hands on a classic story reinvigorated by Stephen Fry’s excellent sense of humour and brilliant story telling skills, I’m a happy kid. A story that is already beloved since childhood now brought to life again by a beloved performer. What else can you ask for. Highly recommend.

I could listen to Stephen Fry read an encyclopaedia and I’d be happy

I wish I had this version of the Odyssey, especially this audiobook version when I was studying the classics. Stephen Fry brought this epic to life.
