Darius Carsington is a spectacularly attractive rake, who's all brains and brawn...and no heart; a man who's equally expert at bedding loose-moraled women and writing scholarly papers. He finds society's "perfect darlings" exceedingly boring. Then why is he so intrigued by the supposedly faultless Lady Charlotte Hayward? Darius senses a crack under her polished surface - and finding it is a challenge he can't resist. Lady Charlotte is so beautiful, charming, and gracious that no one has noticed how expert she's been at not getting married. Early on, she learned a painful lesson about trust...and temptation. In the years since, she's devoted her life to being all she should be, and she's not about to let a man like Carsington entice her into doing everything she shouldn't. But the demands of the heart can easily overpower the rules of manners and morals. And sometimes, even the best-behaved lady must follow her instincts, even if it means risking it all.

I read a lot of historical romances. I don’t know if it was the author or the narrator but this book had me laughing and in floods of tears. That very rarely happens. I must get more of this combination!

This has everything

This was my first Loretta Chase book and what can I say? what an author!? This book has it all AND with (I would say )the best female narrator there is. If you are looking for a romance with wit, charm, saucy moments and a bit of a twist then I highly recommend it. As I have enjoyed it so much Im off to purchase the next in the series now. I hope you agree?

the story gives a good picture of the position of women, and there is a man who is willing to support her!

i do not feel inclined to listten to any other books written by this author.

So lacking in content that i kept falling asleep.

The exaggerated descriptions of the clinch scenes became repetitive, boring and faintly ridiculous. Not Loretta's best.

Completely unrealistic sex.
