'A murder case is like a shark. It sleeps, it dies.'

LAPD Detective Stilwell was forced out of the Homicide department and sent to a dead-end post on Santa Catalina Island.

But when the idyllic holiday destination is rocked by report of a body found in the harbour, weighed down by an anchor, Stilwell has a point to prove to his superiors - and will cross every line to solve the murder himself.

It's sink or swim, as failure will cost him everything while finding the killer will make him a target and reveal the dark heart of his new home.

But on a small island with big secrets - someone is always watching...

Eleştirmen yorumları

Told in Connelly's deceptively understated style, the story is richly detailed when it comes to island life but delivers its essentials in the pared-back prose of the classic crime novel.
Twisty mystery from a master of the genre.
Vividly described... A great story.
It's superbly plotted and gripping - as always from the master of hard-boiled American crime.

I really enjoyed this new character from the author. The story felt fresh and different to what has been before. I did think the ending was a bit abrupt though, but maybe that was because I wanted to find out what happened after that! Really good listen, would recommend.

Still the same high quality

I would have liked to hear the fallout from the cops on the mainland and I hope there is a book 2

great story telling

In contrast to other reviews I really enjoyed this. It’s more similar in style to early Bosch, with lots of procedural description. If MC continues this as a series I think it’ll need to get a little more gritty and some of the peripheral characters a little less cliched. But overall really good and kept me listening.

Enjoyable new characters in a semi-familiar setting

Well he’s not Harry Bosch but I like his character and would happily read another book. A good story which was a slow burner but once I got into it I enjoyed it.

A new Detective
