Norman Wisdom's early years could easily have come straight from the pages of a Dickens novel. Left by their frightened mother and ill-treated by a brutal father, Norman and his brother were forced to fend for themselves, sleeping rough in London and stealing food to survive. This is a rags to riches tale of the man Charlie Chaplin said would take his mantle and who went on to make millions laugh around the world for over five decades. Here are the hardships, tragedies, and triumphs that gave him his inspiration.

From the days working the seasons at Scarborough, to the unforgettable and endearing character Norman Pitkin, the little man in a tight fitting suit, read of his rapid climb up the showbiz ladder.

What a full lived life. You just love him more when you hear all his escapades. The Wetherspoons in Deal is named after him. From poverty to the Palladium. He took everything on the chin sometimes literally. A remarkable man and thank you Sir Norman for narrating it yourself. Listened in one sitting.

Heart Warming. You will cry

this was an excellent story that could never of been done justice to if read by any one else.
Norman came over as exeptionaly meek yet proud of what he had achived and grateful for the opportunitys that he had been given. Baring in mind how his story started out he had every reason to be proud of his achievements.
But one thing I took from the end of this story was how a career in the limelight can take over your life and damage your relationships with loved ones if you are not carfull.
So all whould stars take not of this.

Brilliant story of a down to earth star.
