Ninety-five-year-old Lottie Barnes now lives in a care facility in her native Iowa. Restrained by the physical trappings of old age and cognitive decline, she struggles to comprehend her present surroundings. Nevertheless, her life story unfolds as she remembers key moments from her past with sharp clarity.

"Every once in a while, you come across a book that says things you've always felt but haven't been able to put into words. Eric's stunning, meaningful work called My Last Name is such a book for me. After finishing it, I sat and wept at the realization that I am less alone in my secret sorrows, and more deeply understood than I had once thought. If you need a fresh reminder that you are seen, known, loved, and kept, don't let this book pass you by." (Scott Sauls, author of A Gentle Answer)
"[A] vivid and genuinely moving story." (Bret Lott, National Council on the Arts appointee, New York Times best-selling author, Oprah's Book Club selection)
“This novella might be the most psychologically honest, narratively engaging, and spiritually beautiful thing I have read this year.” (Russell Moore, author of The Courage to Stand)
