Having bought and read all previous Mitford books, by Jan Karon, it was a joy to complete the series after a long break. She still writes beautifully, with such feeling and detail, that it was a truly satisfying read to catch up with all the characters and see how their lives had turned out.
Even if you have not read the previous books, My Beloved can stand on its own, and perhaps tempt you into the series from the beginning.
It was difficult to adjust to a new narrator, and I more enjoyed reading the print book, then returned to the spoken word with greater understanding.
