My Accidental First Date by Casey Morales is hilariously funny and witty, telling the story of Michael who had no sexual experiences at all.

Casey Morales writes about Michael’s discovery of who he is perfectly.

A story of honesty and naivety but he soon learnt about life as soon as he understood who he was he wanted more!

Extremely well written with a captivating writing style!
Great narration by Jon Curtis.

Jon Curtis was absolutely superb, perfect choice for this story, the voice was clear, light and with a up energy, it brought charisma, innocence and vulnerability! The performance was on point and fully committed, I really appreciated it! Congratulations!!

Such a good surprise, it certainly wasn't what I expected!
The Preface already prepared the mood for what's about to come, loved it!
The clues at Joseph’s house, Michael’s upbringing, the scene at the cinema, everything was so funny
I had a really good time with this book! Kudos to Casey Morales!!!

My Accidental First Date is a short, easy listen that I finished in one sitting.

The opening chapters almost feel like they could belong in a horror story, before leaning fully into awkward satire as Morales fictionalises his own (somewhat oblivious) first date. There’s a self-aware humour throughout, with frequent fourth-wall breaks that highlight the author’s embarrassment and naivety.

Jon Curtis delivers a solid narration, bringing an endearing quality to the protagonist that helps balance some of the more cringeworthy moments.

That said, I found it difficult to fully connect with the main character. The self-insert approach, combined with the semi-fictional framing, made the story feel a bit distant at times—I couldn’t help but feel it might have worked better as a straightforward autobiography.

Overall, a light and slightly unconventional listen with an interesting concept, even if it doesn’t fully land.
