Don’t miss the brand-new installment in the fantastic Stamford Mysteries series! Perfect for fans of M.C. Beaton and Richard Osman.

Who knew a harmless town fair could be so polarising – or so deadly?

When auctioneer Felicia Grant’s best friend, Stamford Mayor Cassandra Lane, talked her into helping with the town’s annual Georgian Fair, she expected the worst she’d have to endure was the corset. But when the fair’s headline speaker turns up dead in the hook-a-duck pool, and more murders follow in quick succession, she finds herself investigating a serial killer for the second time in less than a year – and this time the stakes are even higher…

‘A fun read that kept me reading through to the end … certainly held my attention with a group of interesting characters, any one of which might have been a multiple murderer’ ★★★★★
‘The action at an auction is truly inspired…I don't live too far from Stamford and I love the idea that its sleepy yet glorious appearance hides some nefarious goings on’ ★★★★★
‘Love how punchy the start of this is…up there in terms of close knit communities, tension and surprises aplenty’ ★★★★

I'm left feeling somewhat disappointed. In contrast to the first book this plot felt contrived and a lot of time was wasted on scene setting from the previous story which is frustrating if you've already read that one. Characters appear that have little or no connection with the plot and presumably are included just to divert attention. The sergeant's attitude to the main character goes from one extreme to another. All in all it's just not as good as book 1. Shame.

That difficult second book

I liked this for what I expected it to be, a cosy read. I thought it could have so much more in many ways.
I enjoyed the first book which is why I bought this one. I found this book edging a bit towards Mills & Boon in many of the descriptions.

I really enjoyed the first of this series and the second lived up to it. These are gentle whodunits with likeable characters. Nice twists in the plot keep up the interest. It moves quite slowly but the backstories are quite entertaining. Definitely not 'gritty', more Agatha Christie or Midsummer Murders. I can't wait for the next one. Excellently read as well.

Another satisfying story

Didn’t enjoy this as much as the first book in the series! It was very slow to start but did pick up about half way.

Slow to start, decent ending!
