Özet

On a snowy winter evening in 1982, 21-year-old Mary Brown accepted a ride from a handsome stranger in the resort town of Breckenridge, Colorado. The trip ended with her brutally beaten and raped. Mary survived, but her predator's violence had only just begun.

After 10 years in prison, Tom Luther was released a far more vicious criminal. Soon, from the Rockies to West Virginia, like Ted Bundy, Luther enticed a chain of women into his murderous trap. In this gripping new edition of a true crime masterpiece, acclaimed author Steve Jackson recounts the intriguing pursuit and long awaited conviction of a charismatic, monstrous psychopath - one who remains a suspect in three other crimes, and has never given up hope of escape.

I enjoyed listening to this well written book. Someone should have killed (tom). Love the narrator.

It’s a long, sometimes repetitive (statements and testimonies in court) slog which almost feels like it’s happening in real time. It gives an inkling of what frustrations were felt by the victims, the bereaved, law enforcement, and prosecutors as the facts came together. Unanimous jury decisions are problematic as is the jury system in general. As a European, listening to what Americans call a justice system unfolding, I was appalled that the defense can tear down witness character and that previous crimes can be left out entirely so as not to prejudice a case. When dealing with certain personality types, this is completely inappropriate.
This is an excellent book and I highly recommend it. It really shows the complexity of personality types and behaviour of all concerned. Despite my criticisms, which have nothing to do with the book, but with the system being documented, this is a must read. It is sensitively and thoroughly and thoughtfully done. This author is one of the best true crime writers/documenters I have ever come across. The narrator is excellent, sensitive, and comforting even while the harrowing subject matter is narrated.

Extremely well researched and written

at points I felt it was dragging, and there's somewhat many repetitions.
But overall, I feel it was executed very well and the repitions served multiple purposes such as providing the reader with contextual details which probably is necessary on this story due to the great amount of facts, so it's easier for the reader to form the red line of what's happening. Also it supports the authentic experience of the story, because repetitions of details will occur between parties which haven't been presented with certain facts.

I could have wished for the detective's family to be a greater part of the epilogue. we heard some details of how his family life was negatively effected by his focus and time spend with Tom Luther, but not how it resolved afterwards. I assume they might not have wanted it to be for the public to stick their nose in, after all it os a very private matter so that's understandable.

very detailed
