Her tragic destiny was written long before he came into town.

Ellie longs to leave the small town she’s restricted to, but nothing and no one can change her bleak future. Every day is the same, until a trail of bodies is found just inside the town’s borders. When the sexy stranger steps into the bar, her body and hormones thrum on overdrive, making her desperately wish he was there to save her from more than just the killer.

FBI profiler Chandler Peters is broken in all the wrong places and searching for the one person who could save him from himself. Little does he know the urgent call that sends him to help hunt for a serial killer will also lead him to her. Ellie’s mysterious past, wit, and hidden scars speak to him unlike any other, making him wonder if they could save each other.

When all the evidence points to Ellie being in danger, Chandler races to find the killer before the woman who makes him live again becomes the next victim.

*Please note this book does contain several triggers (the serial killer does not play nice with others) and detailed mature content. This book is recommended for 18+.

I loved everything about this audiobook, from Kennedy L. Mitchell wonderful writing style to the characters and storylines she created to the fabulous narration performed by Teddy Hamilton and Kelsey Navarro. This book is the second in the Protection series and it is just as awesome and captivating as the first book, “Mine to Protect”. Both books stand on their own and I highly recommend them. I liked FBI profiler Chandler Peters in the first book and wanted to learn more about it so I was happy to hear he was getting his own book. A serial killer is on the loose in Texas and he gets assigned to case assisting Texas Ranger Alec Bronson. The locals are not very fond of the feds and Alec warns him that it is best to be discreet. One of the local girls catches his eye and the more he gets to know her to more he realizes she fills in pieces of his broken self. Ellie may escaped living in a cult, one of the locals saved her but she has not be able to really live. Working several jobs to make ends meet and making the best of her situation she knows that is all it is going to be for her. Her past keeps trying to get her to back, even her parents but she wants none of it. Because of her history and connection with the cult compound Alec and Chandler ask for her help with the case and she does so with limitations, she does not want to return there. Chandler and Ellie hit it off, not only do they get each other but they have things in common. I loved these two together and for each other. But the closer they grow the closer the serial killer gets. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, angst, mystery, thrilling suspense, twists and turns, heartfelt and emotional moments and some hot romance. Kennedy L. Mitchell, thank you for another awesome story and emotional rollercoaster ride, I loved the ending and how you kept me guessing.

🎧📚🎧 Teddy Hamilton and Kelsey Navarro are the perfect cast to bring these characters and their story to life. They do a fabulous job portraying each character, giving each their own distinct voice making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. They have a complete understanding of each role they play then take each role and make it their own, sounding believable and just as I picture the character to sound. Teddy Hamilton’s Chandler is spot and Kelsey nails it as Ellie, both were awesome playing the secondary characters as well. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters emotions and projected them into their performance. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen🎧
