Now including a new translation, this is a chilling piece of Russian dystopian fiction by Dmitry Glukhovsky and the basis of the bestselling computer games Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light, Metro: Exodus, and the highly-anticipated Metro 2039

A WORLD IN DARKNESS. A SINGLE HOPE.

The year is 2033. The world has been reduced to rubble. Humanity is nearly extinct. A few thousand live on, not knowing if they are the only survivors on the planet. They live in the Moscow Metro - the biggest air-raid shelter ever built. It is humanity's last refuge. It is a world without a tomorrow, with no room for dreams, plans, hopes. Feelings have given way to instinct - the most important of which is survival. Survival at any price.

VDNKh is the northernmost inhabited station on its line and still remains secure. But now a new and terrible threat has appeared. Artyom, a young man living in VDNKh, is given the task of penetrating to the heart of the Metro to alert everyone to the awful danger. He holds the future of his native station in his hands, the future of the Metro - and maybe the whole of humanity.

This book is simply put AMAZING!!! I was so glad to have heard of it. I think, in terms of post-apocalyptic sci-fi books, this one is on the top. There might be some great ones that I haven't read or heard so far, but so far Metro is the leader. Simply incredible in its ability to create a terrifying scene, a sense of fear and desperation, a sense of claustrophobia. Even the clumsy train tracks sounds that precede some of the chapters play perfectly into the dark atmosphere of that world. Note: be sure to download a map of the Moscow Metro before going into it. It might look like too much work, but it's kinda important for the creation of clearer picture of this book. At least it was for me. Get the book, folks!!!

One of the best Audiobooks I have heard so far!!!

I was lost and bewildered as the main character in his journey. The metro is truly a microcosm of cultures.

Captivating

Narrated so very well. An absolutely awesome audio book, some longer drawn out bits but stick with them, they are there for a reason!

Rhythmic in its story line, this book brings the reader into Artyoms journey slowly pulling you in, you come to know him and through careful psychological placement of metaphor and descriptions each lesson, Artyoms learning become your own. A dystopian world view, complimented with as equal attention on life, love, and hope.

Deeply profound in some ways, if you the reader want to go there, to that place, with the writer.

Immersive!

this story is both incredibly harrowing and hopeful, much more emotion and philosophy packed in than I was expecting the narrator made my wife cringe whenever he said russian station names and the story made her miss a home she'll never return to

Played the game, loved the book
