The female Nero Wolfe!

Message from a Corpse is a masterpiece from the pen of Golden Age mystery novelist Sam Merwin, Jr.

When writer Breck Barnum finds himself framed for murder, he soon realizes the slaying is connected to the autobiography of a world famous financier he had ghosted. But the unfinished manuscript has disappeared, and Breck thinks he has problems when he discovers a pair of murderous goons and three beautiful women are also searching for it. Then he meets Amy Brewster and discovers his problems are only beginning. She's the only one who can save him - if she doesn't drive him crazy first! Never mess with a friend of Amy's. Crimedom is about to discover the real meaning of terror, for Tommy guns and automatics are no match for Amy. And soon the 50ish millionaire detective finds she's the next target on the killer's list.

This is an OK book, An interesting mystery that could probably have been much better if an hour shorter, I thought it got a bit tedious toward the end. Over descriptive maybe. However it was an enjoyable listen. Jade O'Kelley's narration was very good and she helped keep the book going. Recommended.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the publisher and leave this honest review voluntarily. ****

I found the book overly descriptive to the point of annoyance, It's as though the author had swallowed a thesaurus. It was more flowery than a florists shop. - I mean 'behind the seven plus one ball' Really?? He uses ten words where one would suffice. The dialogue was of its time I suppose, but I'm afraid the narration was also below par for me. It was a straight read with very little characterisation. A few meaningful pauses would also have helped. Story was ok, standard mystery stuff. I think I'm being generous with 3*

Not for me.
