Varied and fleshes out the expanse universe even more, several of the books are actually story threads in the TV series - though don’t make it in to the main book series. As ever imagination and very different types of story, grounded characters in a great universe. Highly recommended.

Excellent combined set of stories.

The Expanse set of books is one of the best pieces of science-fiction I have read &/or listened to for many years. The TV adaptation is also excellent & although it does merge some characters, the effect on the narrative is largely minimal, except for the truncated final season. Both are recommended.

This set of novellas forms links between the main novels and fills in loose ends and background for several characters; some of the material was used by the TV series' screenwriters.

A particular highlight is 'Strange Dogs'.

To summarise: the Expanse is essential reading for any sci-fi fan; all of it.

The essential Expanse

The final book of the Expanse, this anthology of eight stories throughout, before and after the series is an excellent, sometimes poignant, aftershock. Author's notes after each story gives a rare insight into the creative process of James S. A. Corey, and as always Jefferson Mays IS the voice of the Expanse.

Bittersweet Coda to the Expanse

I was hesitant to purchase this book because I am not a fan of short stories which are often fillers between the main books in a series. However, each story was in itself and interesting parable, all be set in the expanse universe. Each was engaging in its own right.

Excellent stories

Turns out that the Expanse is even better in short story form. Character development, small scale stories and world building again and again. We get plenty of development for side characters, epilogues and prologues for them, and the main series is improved by reading this.

The Butcher of Andersson Station was just a name before, as was Auberon, and Eric was just a nobody. Cara and Xan came out of the left field, and Epstein was just yet another name. Now, they are all people, as important as Holden, Avasarala, Bobby, Marco or Winston Duarte.

The Expanse at its best.
